Word Study:

This week we will begin Unit 5 words!

The website has great resources to find the definitions we will use in class, as well as games and ways to practice the multiple meanings of each word. The Wordly Wise website is here: Wordly Wise

Click Level 2 (second grade) and then Lesson 5.

Each child has their own unique log-in. They should know how to log in on their own, we have practiced accessing the website in class. Let me know if you cannot get into the program.

Wordly Wise is a vocabulary-building program we will be using this year. Wordly Wise is all completed in class, so no homework! There is an online component that you are welcome to use at home to support our new vocabulary words.

I'm a native Ohioan (GO BUCKS!), but have been in North Carolina for 15 years! This is my 12th year at Antioch!

My husband and I have two adorable children-Chase and Ellie. Chase is 5 1/2 and Ellie is 3 1/2!

My favorite, favorite place is the beach but will settle for the pool when I have to! Chase, Ellie and I spent almost every day swimming and enjoying the water this summer!

We also have 3 dogs: Katie, Palmer and Hank. For the past 5 or 6 years, we have worked closely with a local Great Dane and Pug rescue, which has been great fun fostering lots of amazing dogs!

Weekends are spent running around and loving time with the kids! Once those little kiddos are in bed most evenings are spent binge-watching the DVR!

This is my sixth year teaching 2nd grade and I just love this grade! We're going to have a fantastic year and I am looking forward to spending lots of time learning about your precious angel!

Reading

Reading assessments are completed and levels have been adjusted accordingly. Just right books come home each week and those should be the books they focus on for their nightly homework reading! These books are right at their accuracy/comprehension level so while they can usually read books that are harder, they aren't always doing the deeper thinking and comprehension work on those harder levels. Continue to encourage 20 minutes in just rights, and additional time in any book of their choice!

Reminder: reading log should use JUST RIGHT BOOKS!
