As a resident at the University of Alberta, it is very important to check both your ualberta and AHS email addresses regularly. The ualberta email is for education related matters. All patient related matters need to be communicated through your AHS email and/or the Connect Care portal.

The University of Alberta is excited to offer Google Apps to all faculty, staff, and students as part of our ongoing commitment to provide effective, modern tools for higher education opportunities. Since the U of A has implemented Google Apps for Education, there are no pesky ads, and the Apps are free to all University of Alberta users. You can also be assured that your email is private and secure (no data-mining), comes with our support, and is mobile friendly.

Google allows you to share your calendar within the University of Alberta as well as externally with commercial Google accounts. You can see the schedules that others have shared with you, allowing you to easily coordinate availability with your friends and family.
Making Gmail your default mail application
You can designate Gmail as your default mailto handler. This means that when you click on any hyperlinked email address, a Gmail compose window will open so you can send a message to that address from Gmail.
If you use Windows:
Right-click the Notifier icon in your system tray, and select Options.
Check the box next to Use Gmail for internet mailto: links.
Click OK.
If you decide later that you don't want to use Gmail as your default email application, simply uncheck the box.
If you use Firefox, follow the Firefox instructions below instead of these (much easier)
If you use Firefox for Windows, it's easy:
Go to Tools > Options
Select the Applications tab
Search for mailto and select Use Gmail from the list of actions associated with the mailto protocol
Click OK to save the settings.
If you use a Mac:
Open the Notifier.
Click the Mail icon on the Menu bar and go to Preferences...
Select the Gmail tab and choose Gmail as the program from the Compose mail in drop-down menu.
If you use Firefox, follow the Firefox instructions below instead of these (much easier)
If you use Firefox for Mac, it's easy:
Go to Firefox > Preferences
Select the Applications tab
Search for mailto and select Use Gmail from the list of actions associated with the mailto protocol
Click OK to save the settings.
If you use Chrome:
If you use Chrome, you'll be asked if you want to use Gmail for all of your email links in Chrome.
