PAGERS
Pagers will be distributed at the PGME Orientation. Your pager is for use during your residency and must be returned prior to leaving the program.
Ensure you are using your ualberta account. All PGME and rotation information will ONLY be sent via ualberta. It is imperative that you check your email regularly and respond within a timely fashion.
You will have a mail folder/box in the Kitchen/Photocopy room. Please check and empty this regularly.
ID BADGE/LABCOATS
Your ID badge is obtained at the UAH Security Office (0H1.04 WMC, 780-407-8347). Two personalized lab coats can be found at linen services on Level 0 (0H4.02 WMC, 780-407-1882).
You will also require a University ONEcard. The PGME office will send you a link to upload the photograph to your ONEcard account so that the staff can produce the card. This will be available for pick up at the PGME orientation.
LIBRARY AND PHOTOCOPY PRIVILEGES
Upon registration with PGME, each resident will be issued a university username which allows online and site access to all library resources.
PARKING
All residents are eligible for reciprocal parking privileges (for all hospital sites in Capital Health) through the UAH parking office at a monthly rate by payroll deduction. Applications are made available at the Resident Orientation. Any parking required thereafter should be through the Parking Office (0H1.01 WMC, 780-407-8890, office hours 0800-1600).
RESIDENT ROOM
This room is located at 1-124A CSB. Door code is 0308*.
DICTATIONS & DISCHARGE SUMMARIES
Residents are expected to dictate reports and discharge summaries. Consult notes can also be dictated at certain AHS sites, but residents should check with the consult staff regarding their preference.
CMPA
Membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) became a requirement for each Resident effective September 1, 2003, per Article 21.01(a) of the PARA Agreement. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have up to date CMPA coverage. You must also notify CMPA when going to a different city on elective. The residency program does not reimburse expenses for this. PGME requires proof of coverage – if this has not been done, you will not be allowed to work.

CPSA
Each province has a college which provides physicians, both resident and staff, with a license number. It is your responsibility to ensure that you possess an educational license to practice medicine in Alberta. Similarly, when going away on elective, you must apply for an educational license in that province.

HEALTH ISSUES
It is your responsibility to have a yearly Mantoux (if you are Mantoux negative). This is FREE of charge to all residents from Occupational health and Safety (1-198 CSB, 780-492-6968). Also please ensure that you have proper immunization to Hepatitis B. Supplementary disability insurance is taken out by many residents of their own initiative, in addition to that provided by PARA.
Residents are responsible for letting their preceptor, switchboard, and Michelle Foley-CLarke at mednid@ualberta.ca know if they are away sick.

When you are scheduled for home-call and are required to come in for more than four hours, one hour being after midnight, your home-call stipend changes to in-house stipend status (switch call). Be sure to notify the ID MEPC (Linda Semper) who submits the information to PARA.
