Narrative - Writing in which the author recounts a personal or fictional experience or tells a story based on real or imagined events.
Expository - Writing in which author’s purpose is to inform or explain the subject to the reader.
Argumentative/Persuasive - Writing that states the opinion of the writer and attempts to influence the reader of the validity of the opinion or to take action.
Descriptive – A type of expository writing that uses the five senses to paint a picture for the reader. This writing incorporates imagery and specific details.

MLA - The Modern Language Association style is most associated with languages and literature.
APA - The American Psychological Association's style is used most often with scientific writing.
Chicago - The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) has been published since 1906. It is used extensively in publishing and the humanities. The style covers both "footnotes" and "endnote" options.
