Feedback

Instead of waiting until the formal course evaluation I often solicit feedback from my students using index cards and Stop, Start, Continue activity. I will take that feedback and incorporate it into class or at minimum discuss it next class meeting. Here's an example:

In late 2017, when we received word that the THECB (Texas Higher Education Certifying Board) had denied our application for ANTH270/370 to be a Core Curriculum class to the fulfill the requirement for Engineering Ethics, the students got mad and started a petition. 138 students signed the petition and made statements of support for the class. The petition made no difference, but the comments were memorable:

Around the same time I received this inspiring email from an "Aggie Mom" --- it's these kinds of things that encourage me to continue using 'Active Learning" in the classroom.
