The Tiffin Carnival is one of the largest XC meets in the Midwest and is a wonderful experience for the kids.
Parking and traffic at the meet can be difficult. Make sure you take this into consideration when making your travel plans and feel free to carpool if necessary. The team area will be the at the same place we've had the past several years which is directly left of the starting line as you stand at the starting line. We will be adjacent to the main road running through the park. Parents should note that as you enter Hedges Boyer Park you'll drive through majority of the park passing by the school bus parking area and continuing for another 1/4 mile or so. Feel free to call me on my cell at 419-304-6102 if you have problems finding us. There will be the white pop-up tent with the St. Joes Jaguar’s banner. However, if it is your first trip to Tiffin there are tents everywhere. Be patient and you will find it.
Both boys and girls varsity runners MUST be at the St Joe’s team site no later than 11:45 a.m. Boys varsity race is at 12:45 and girls varsity race is 1:25. The varsity race is only permitted to have seven runners so the coaches will assign who will be running in the varsity race with the remaining kids running the open race. Please let the coaches now as soon as possible if you will not be attending the meet.
Open division runners should arrive by 1:15 unless they want to arrive earlier and watch their teammates. The boys open race is at 2:15 and the girls open race is at 2:40.
Race Prep (extremely important)- Friday night full meal of pasta, pizza, chicken etc. Get to bed early (no football games or sleep overs). Saturday morning full breakfast! Make sure no later than 8:30 a.m. Fluids early and bring some for the car ride. No need for snacks after breakfast. If your child is super motivated they’ll go out for about a 10 minute slow jog right before breakfast. This is commonly known as a shake-out run and the former Coach Baugh insists it helps, particularly when you have drive time before a race. Also, Coach Baugh knows from experience that port-o-pots are no fun to get your business done before a race. Prioritize quality bathroom time prior to leaving for Tiffin. With that being said, our team site is conveniently located 25 meters from start of race and 50 meters from port-o-pots.
Coach Riley will send a separate e-mail to bring snacks/food for the kids. We should have enough for kids and parents as we’d like to see the kids stay awhile and watch some of our area’s high school runners compete at 4:00 and 4:30 p.m.
Don’t forget to take some pictures of the meet.
