The telephone is an important tool in communication with our customers and vendors. Because of this, the number of telephone sets and locations of telephones has increased. It is Superior’s desire to use the telephone system as cost effectively as possible to maintain our personal production at a high level; thus, the following policy has been developed:
1. Telephone calls from family members, friends and other personal calls will be handled as follows:
a) Production employees: All calls will be transferred to the employee during their morning and afternoon breaks or noon lunch. Any calls received at other times will have a message taken and forwarded to their supervisor.
b) Office employees: All calls will be transferred to the employee any time during the day. The calls must be kept as short as possible unless received during the morning and afternoon breaks or noon lunch. Although personal calls to office employees will be allowed outside of breaks and noon lunch, they should be kept to a minimum. If any office personnel are receiving excessive personal calls, the department supervisor will address the issue.
c) Emergency calls will be put through to the employee whenever received.
d) All employees are asked to inform callers that they may only receive personal calls during the morning and afternoon breaks or noon lunch.
e) Out-going personal calls should be made during morning and afternoon breaks or noon lunch.
2. Personal long distance use of the phone at company expenses will not be allowed except as follows:
a) If personal long distance calls need to be made on the Company’s telephone system, the call must be billed to a personal calling card or home telephone number.
