There may be times when you may feel you have not been treated fairly. Many times, such feelings arise simply because all the facts are not known to all parties. At other times, it is a matter of a simple misunderstanding. We may also make an honest mistake. Experience has taught us that differences are best settled by direct and frank discussion. If you are in disagreement with a fellow worker or supervisor, have a question about the interpretation or application of an employment policy, feel you have been treated unfairly, or feel a problem has not been resolved to your satisfaction; you may use the following three step procedure for review of such problems without fear of retaliation. This procedure may also be used if you feel your suggestion was not given a fair hearing. If you feel uncomfortable with using the first two steps, or if you feel it necessary, you may make an appointment with Human Resources.
First Step: Immediate Supervisor
You should bring the situation to the attention of your immediate supervisor as soon as possible. Explain the nature of the problem and suggest a solution. After being advised about the problem, the supervisor will investigate and try to provide a solution or an explanation to you within five (5) working days. In the event the supervisor fails to respond within five (5) working days, or the answer you receive does not clear up the problem, you may proceed to the second step.
Second Step: Department Head
If your question or problem is not resolved to your satisfaction in the first step, you may refer your problem in writing to the department head of your division. The department head will attempt to provide an answer to you within five (5) working days after receiving notice of the problem or suggestion. In the event the department head fails to respond within five (5) working days, or you are dissatisfied with the answer provided, you may proceed to the final step.
Final Step: Human Resources
If you are not satisfied with the result of the second step, you may appeal to Human Resources. After receiving the information, HR will determine if the first and second steps were followed. If they were followed, the following steps will be taken by Human Resources:
1. Talk over the problem with you to get further clarification.
2. Talk with the department head to get further clarification.
3. Schedule a meeting with all concerned parties, if necessary.
After careful consideration of all facts, Human Resources will render a final decision to you.
