'Outstanding research impact' for our work on suicide and self-harm

We are delighted that the Suicidal Behaviour Research Lab’s (SBRL) research impact was evaluated as ‘Outstanding’ 4* in REF2014 (http://www.ref.ac.uk) which is the UK-wide evaluation of research quality.

SBRL was one of two impact case studies included in Stirling University’s Psychology submission (where Rory O’Connor worked until 2013; although publications follow the individual, impact rests with original university). Our case study described the wide-ranging impact that our research has had on policy and practice nationally and internationally related to self-harm and suicide prevention.

Professor Rory O’Connor commented: “I am delighted that the impact of our research has been recognized in this way. All of us who work within the Suicidal Behaviour Research Lab are passionate about preventing suicide and helping those who self-harm. It is really important to us that the findings from our research are not confined to the ivory towers of academia but that we translate our research into helping those who are vulnerable and who are at risk of self-harm and suicide.”
