Rory was one of the keynote speakers at the 5th Triple I Conference on Suicidology (Piran, 12-14th May, 2014; which is held in honour of Dr Andrej Marusic) and organized by the Slovene Centre for Suicide Research (Prof Diego De Leo and Vita Postuvan).   It was a great couple of days with excellent contributions from Vita Postuvan (Slovene Centre for Suicide Research, University of Primorska), Prof Diego de Leo (Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention, Griffith University and Slovene Centre for Suicide Research), Prof Lakshmi Vijayakumar, SNEHA and VHS, Chennai, India), Prof Gwendolyn Portzky (Flemish Centre for Suicide Prevention, University of Ghent) and Prof Zoltan Rihmer (Semmelweis University, Budapest).  It was also encouraging to see the media in attendance which led to good coverage of suicide prevention in the Slovene national news, radio and TV media.

One of the issues that really struck me was a question that Lakshmi Vijayakumar asked during one of the panel discussions. She asked why suicide prevention had not become an issue of human rights like many of the other stigmatized causes of death?  There is no simple answer but this is a question which we should continue to ask until it happens. More details of the conference can be found here.
