French III

What to expect in French III.

In this third year course students greatly expand their conversational skills and their ability to narrate events and describe their activities orally and in effective writing. In our text, Discovering French Today we will concentrate on Units 5,6,7 and 8 which focus on health and sports, where we live and used to live, childhood, fashion and clothing, and camping and travel. We learn to hypothesize, predict events, retell events, make comparisons, express and defend opinions and tell our daily routine. Additionally, we study the history of French in the Americas, the French Renaissance, castles, and French communities around the globe.

I expect French III students to speak French in class at least 50% of the time, and to work more independently to review material and to acquire new skills and knowledge. There will be daily independent practice to be completed at home and several projects, researching a Francophone community, researching a castle, writing a children's story and planning a trip.

Distance Learning

Learning to speak another language is best accomplished through actually speaking with others. When we meet in a classroom a great deal of our time is spent listening and speaking to French from many sources - teacher, student, audio, video.

Students learning French from home MUST diligently use all resources to practice speaking and listening to make up for the loss of in person class. Students must:

  • Attend Class via Google Meet, answer questions, participate in discussions.

  • Use the On-line textbook : listen to dialogues, watch videos, utilize everything.

  • Practice with the Workbook exercises, that are also available at the online textbook website.

  • Complete all assignments, written and spoken; submit audio recordings when required.
