French II

What to expect in French II:

In this course you will solidify and expand upon your ability to speak, understand, read and write French. Since you can communicate more, grammar becomes a little more complicated and vocabulary more detailed. Your big accomplishment will be learning to speak and write about past events, that is, tell what you did yesterday or last summer. Our cultural focus is France. We will talk about current events and you will do a presentation on a Paris monument/museum, etc. and a more extensive project on a region of France. Most students need to spend extra time reviewing French 1 material when they begin French 2, especially if they not been in French class for more than 3 months. I expect all students to have reviewed and mastered present tense of the basic irregular verbs (etre, avoir, faire, aller, venir) and regular -er, -re, and ir verbs within the first weeks of class.

Students whose French I class was more than one year ago or who earned below 70% are advised to retake French I before taking French II. If you have concerns please come and talk with me.

Review resources include the textbook website, my.hrw.com , as well as notes and workbooks from French I, and handouts in class.

French 2 is offered Spring terms during 2nd and 4th blocks.
