If an athlete at FMHS suffers a possible injury or is diagnosed with a concussion they MUST contact the athletic training staff before participating in a practice or game to seek assistance with the necessary steps moving forward.
One of the most common topics of discussion and concern currently surrounding youth sports are concussions or mild traumatic brain injuries (MTBI). As a part of Texas House Bill 2038 "Natasha's Law" each school district in Texas must follow strict guidelines created by a Concussion Oversight Team (COT) to create and manage the policy for students that suffer a concussion. For specific info on this law please see the Texas State Athletic Trainer's Association website for FAQ's http://www.tsata.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/HB-2038-FAQ.pdf.
LISD's Concussion Oversight Team has utilized current research and designed a policy to guide our staff and student's parents in returning to both learning environments and sports activity. The AT staff at FMHS utilizes several evaluation tools for concussion management including the C3 Logix Applications for baseline and post-concussion assessments. Information about C3 Logix can be found at C3 Logix.
For more information, the LISD Parent Guide to Concussion is found below. Please utilize the LISD Concussion management form when going to doctor visits related to concussion care.
