New unit: Los fines de semana en el parque / Weekends in the park
You have learned two simple (one-word) past tenses, the preterite and the imperfect. Now we will begin to learn how to know when you use one and when you use the other.
Grammar: Preterite v. imperfect
Vocab: Park/Amusement park
Project guidelines - Cronología de mi vida - Pret-imp.pdf - Draft of sentences due on Tue., June 6 & project due on Mon., June 12
Rubric - Rubric-Cronología-PDF.pdf
ADD ANOTHER DAY TO THIS UNIT IN '17-18
Fri., June, 2:
We will watch your comparison videos, then discuss our new unit, it's our last one before our review and final exam!
Belated starter:
a.) Practice this vocab:
b.) Take this "test":
When you've earned 90% or better, take a screen shot.
In class:
1. We will review the project guidelines, above. PLS. NOTE THESE DATES: Draft of sentences = Tue., June 6, & Project = Mon., June 12.
2. DUE TO FRIDAY'S FIRE DRILL, WE WILL DO THIS NEXT CLASS:
Complete the reading, El domingo en el parque, on this video and answer the questions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q94l7c6tos
It may be easier to watch the video up to approx. 2:50 at your own pace, then partner up so that you can view the questions on one iPad and rewind the video on another. We'll review the questions together.
Homework - due Tue., June 6:
Write 20 sentences (10 in the imperfect & 10 in the preterite) for your project (not 20 random past tense sentences!) If these are not ready prior to the beginning of Tuesday's class, you will be ineligible for editing help!
READ this clearly written preterite v. imperfect explanation, before you do the homework! http://tinyurl.com/PreteriteImperfectSummary
Remember the "down and dirty" preterite v. imperfect rules:
1. In the context of the sentence:
IF it makes more sense in English to say:
was/were + verb-ing OR used to + verb
THEN use the imperfect.
(I was eating pizza OR I used to eat pizza => Comía pizza)
2. Time/date, age & other descriptions in the past, use the imperfect.
(I was short when I was three years old => (Yo) era baja cuando tenía tres años.)
Otherwise, use the preterite!
Tue., June 6:
Starter: http://www.glencoe.com/qe/qe17.php?qi=9838
In class:
1. I will be helping each of you edit your sentences.
2. While I am doing that, you will work in groups of 2-3 to complete activity 2 from Friday's class (see above.)
3. Staying in your groups, complete this preterite v. imperfect practice: http://tinyurl.com/PretVImperfPractice
4. If you finish early you may:
a. Work on your project;
b. Practice the parque vocab. in quizlet; or
c. Begin final exam review (see green highlighting, below.)
Those are your only options - no wasting time!
Homework: Work on the project that is due next Monday, June 12.
Thu., June 8:
Starter: Look at this picture for 2-3 minutes. Do not use a dictionary or notes. Time yourself speaking about it for at least 1:30 minutes. Enelparque-dibujo.pdf (This is good practice for the speaking section of the final.)
In class:
1. Show me your work from last class (El domingo en el parque and the "PretVImperfPractice") for puntos.
2. Then we will review El domingo en el parque and the "PretVImperfPractice."
3. Final questions on the project that is due next class?
4. Time permitting, begin final exam review:
a. We'll have a conjugation race to refresh your memory on the present tense "verb blast" verbs and the preterite Cucaracha verbs.
b. We'll play a vocab. game. I'll pick a letter and you and your teammates will write as many words from the following categories that begin with it:
1.) descriptions/characteristics;
2.) occupations/relationships/religions;
3.) conditions/emotions;
4.) chores/pastimes;
5.) body/medical;
6.) food/restaurant.
FINAL EXAM REVIEW ON YOUR OWN
I suggest that you review the following:
A. verb blast verbs (irregular & stem-changing verbs in the present tense)
B. ser v. estar (& ser vocab. - particularly descriptions & estar vocab. - particularly location prepositions)
SER = DOCTOR (description, occupation, characteristics, time/date, origin, race/relationship/religion)
Remember to use ser with things that are permanent (origin/race), hard to change (description/occupation/characteristics/relationships/religion) or you can't change (time/date.)
StudyGuide-seryadjectivos.docReligionsOccupationsSer.doc
ESTAR = PLACE (position/location, action*, condition/emotion)
*Present progressive, e.g. Estoy escribiendo. I am writing.
C. chores & tener que + infinitive to express what you have to do (and maybe where some chores are done, rooms at home, school, etc.)
D. pastimes (vacations, travel, what you do in your spare time)
Here's a long quizlet, you may wish to copy it to your account and delete the ones you don't think you'll ever use (Irish dance?)
http://quizlet.com/35213959/pasatiempos-flash-cards/
E. health vocab. (body parts, how to express what hurts, hospital/pharm. vocab.)CuerpoIdiomsTenerStudyGuide.doc
F. food (& related verbs like to cook, to prepare, etc.)
G. preterite v. imperfect (conjugation, esp. practice your cucaracha verbs, & usage.)
