**Availability of Emergency Funds is greatly reduced for this school year. For Summer 2022-Spring 2023, the maximum eFunds award will be $1,000 and CARES funding will be offered only once this school year. Note that CARES funds are the only funds that can pay tuition balances.**

For African American students in need of tuition, educational, or basic needs assistance -- awards are made on a case-by-case basis; more information is posted online. Must be enrolled full-time and a U.S. citizen, residing in the Links service area which includes King County, and be able to demonstrate continued involvement in service to the African American community. For students who are able to describe their ethnicity, heritage, or ancestry in relation to lands in Asia or the Pacific Islands. awards range from one-time $2,500 awards to multi-year $5,000 awards. If selected, scholars must be enrolled full-time in the 2023-24 school year to receive the award. South students are eligible for the AANAPISI Scholarship, while APIA Scholarships are available to all US students. You may apply for both scholarships with the same application. Apply online.

Washington Gear Up Scholarship list local & national scholarship opportunitiesTwo South students are selected each year based on their high academic achievements, community involvement, and service to their school and community. Honorees will receive scholarship support towards their transfer to a four-year college or university. In addition, they will be considered for the further scholarship support if named to the All-USA Academic team. More information will be available when the scholarship opens.

Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship - application opens Oct.1 and is due in January - awards up to $55,000/year for rising juniors (Fall 2021 transfers). Open to all majors. Minimum 3.5 GPA.
Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship - application opens Sept. 1 - awards include funding for 2 years (up to $9,500/year) and paid summer internship opportunities at NOAA facilities - for rising Juniors in majors related to NOAA programs and mission.
Washington Women in Need Star Scholars Program - application usually opens January and is due in April for the following school year - awards up to $5,000 per year for multiple years. For women with 2.5+ GPA who demonstrate financial need.
Washington State Opportunity Baccalaureate Scholarship - application usually opens in December and is due in February - provides multi-year funding for specific majors at WA schools - for freshmen and sophomores only - 2.75+ GPA and WA state HS or GED required
UW Martin Achievement Scholarship - application opens in February and is due in early April - provides one year of funding at South (up to $5,000) and up to 3 years of funding at UW Seattle (up to $12,000/year) - for rising sophomores in any major.
U.W. Martin Honors Scholarship - application opens in May and is due in July - provides up to 3 years of funding at UW Seattle (up to $12,000/year) for Spring & Fall 2021 transfers.
For South students who need assistance to stay in school -- talk to United Way Benefits Hub Staff in Worksource RSB 79.
For King County residents who do not have financial aid or other funding. FAFE provides tuition, fees, and textbook funding needed for Associate's Degree. Must maintain 3.0+ GPA and enroll in 10+ credits per term. Apply at least 3 weeks prior to the quarter begins. Requires 3 recommendations, personal statement, transcript, education plan, and paper application. Download the application and FAQs. Talk to TRIO staff for a referral before you apply.
For RST Academy members who are pursuing an eligible STEM major, who have submitted FAFSA and demonstrate financial need. Awards up to $2500 per quarter, renewable. Priority to students who have not yet completed Math098. Apply online.
For African American college students - must be a U.S. citizen - must show financial need. Scholarships are made to support students with an unmet financial need, such as exhausted financial aid or personal emergency. Awards provide tuition assistance, educational supplies, basic needs (transportation, medical/dental/food). Awards are determined on a case-by-case basis. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with due dates: 8/1/22, 11/1/22 and 2/1/23. Apply online.
For children of active, reserve, honorably discharged or killed while serving U.S. Marine or Navy Corpsman. For students pursuing a Professional/Technical program with 2.0+ GPA and 2017 gross family income under $98,000. Limited eligibility for stepchildren and grandchildren. Part-time students are eligible. Awards $1,500-$10,000 per year, renewable for up to 4 years. Applications are reviewed monthly. Apply online.
PPEP is a comprehensive program to help current or former prisoners go to school. Scholarship funds are used to supplement financial aid and amounts vary. Download application and learn more online.
For women who have survived domestic violence. The scholarship requires applicants to have worked with a DV agency for 6+ months. Awards are $200 - $5,000+, and are renewable. Part-time students can be funded. Special consideration will be given to those interested in using their education to further the rights of, and options for, women and girls. For South students who identify as Asian American and/or Asian Pacific Islander. Awards $2,500/year for one or two years. First award begins in Winter Quarter.

For students who plan to attend South for 1 year before transferring to UW Seattle. Must have 15+ transferrable credits at time of application and demonstrate signs of exceptional ability in science, humanities, music, art, and/or leadership. Awards up to $5,000/year for one year at South and up to $12,000/year for 3 years at UW Seattle, contingent upon admission. Requires application (with 4 essay questions), unofficial transcripts, 2 recommendations, activities resume or CV. Finalists will be interviewed.

For women who have a desire to create a pathway to achieve economic stability. This grant provides 6 months of coaching services with a coach certified by the International Coach Federation or a counselor licensed by the State of Washington to create a personal plan to fully meet current financial obligations, feel secure in your financial future and be able to make choices to enjoy life.
For women who have graduated within the last 12 months or will graduate within the next 12 months. This grant provides 6 months of coaching services with a coach certified by the International Coach Federation.
