US Bank offers an array of short lessons to help you learn about finances. If you complete 6+ lessons, you can enter a drawing for a $4,000 scholarship. Estimate your monthly income & expenses to create a budget using CashCourse's Budget wizard.
Create a free account under "Other Learner" and log in
Choose "Other Tools" then "Budget Wizard"
Follow instructions to create your budget.
After you have entered your income and expenses, try to adjust them so they are equal. If your expenses are too high, consider how you can increase your income and/or decrease your spending. If your income is higher than your expenses, put the extra income into savings or an emergency fund.
Log into CashCourse
Click on "Financial Tools," then choose "Coursework."
Choose a topic that interests you. Each module takes about 45 minutes to complete -- topics include:
Be Credit Savvy,
Budgeting Basics,
Paying Back Student Loans,
Getting Started with Saving & Investing,
Understanding & Managing Income Taxes,
Saving & Goal Setting,
Fraud Protection, or
Prepare for Emergencies.
Don't "shot-gun" it -- plan ahead. This applies to classes, scholarships (ask for recommendations at least 2 weeks n advance), everything!
Know what your income & expenses are, so you can spend mindfully, save for emergencies & big purchases.
Build your social capital -- as a student, you probably don't have a lot of money but build connections with people, especially those you meet in college, are resources for now & the future.
United Way of King County Benefits Hub can help you access assistance for food, transportation, housing and utilities, financial coaching, and free tax preparation & advocacy.

South's Financial Aid Steps: After submit your FAFSA, follow Steps #4-7 to ensure you receive your award. Check your email and financial aid portal frequently to make sure you are on track. Once you are notified of your award, you must accept it within 30 days through your portal. Your tuition and fees will be deducted from your award and the remaining money will be refunded via the method you selected (Step #7) during the first week of the quarter.
