Summary of Conclusions, May 2015

Recommendations for AY 2015-2016 involve pilots to test the feasibility, sustainability, and scalability of each item below. The recommendations will be refined and modified based on the results of the pilots.

Primary purposes of ePortfolios

    • Reflection
    • Program/institutional assessment
    • Personal and post-graduate/professional promotion
    • Skill-building for communicating student’s accomplishment with different audiences, using a variety of tools, proceeding from a “low-stakes” environment for inward-facing ePortfolios, to a “high-stakes” environment for outward-facing ePortfolios

University Studies ePortfolio (inward-facing)

    • Required of all students
    • Created during their first year (in University Seminar, House or Honors. NOTE: The University Studies ePortfolio does NOT replace the portfolios currently used by USEM/House and Honors.)
    • Based on Google sites template (see sample) developed by University Studies
    • Primary uses: Reflection to support student development, University Studies Program Assessment
    • Includes 11 artifacts: one for each strand A-J and one final reflection

Additional ePortfolio for major/capstone/professional purposes (outward-facing)

    • Entirely optional, unless required by the department
    • Google sites and WordPress will be supported by Center for Instructional Support
    • Department or student can choose any ePortfolio platform they wish for this outward-facing ePortfolio
    • Primary uses: personal and post-graduate/professional promotion
