I discovered the urge to teach later in my professional career. After graduating college with a degree in Communications I joined the corporate world and worked in sales. After e few years I transitioned into what was then my dream job, working for ESPN The Magazine. At first I was a researcher and freelance writer, but I eventually became the NFL Insider for the website.
Shortly thereafter, I was bitten by the teaching bug. I was always a history buff and my wife asked me to talk to her youth group about a film they'd been watching about the Rwandan genocide. It was at that moment that I knew I wanted to teach and I've pursued it ever since. I have a true passion for history, because by peering into the past we can better understand our present and better foresee our future.
I worked for several years in the Madison School district, first as a permanent sub and later as a full-time teacher. I also worked as a long-term sub at Maplewood Middle School in 2012 when I was a maternity leave replacement for Lindsey Sebastian.
I'm excited to be here for the entire school year and I am really looking forward to showing how our "then" and our "now" are inextricably linked.
