Breaking up can be extremely difficult, whether you have been in a relationship before or this is your first relationship. Feelings of sadness, anger, hurt, and disappointment are very common reactions to breakups. A breakup is essentially a loss of a relationship, and thus breakups usually involve a type of grief.
Here are some important things to remember:
Take care of your body. This means eating, sleeping and exercising on regular daily schedule.
Re-connect with your friends and family. There are probably more people who care about you than you know. Reach out to them and let them know what you're going through.
Keep your distance electronically. Facebook and myspace make it harder!
Don't try to be friends right away. You will be "just a friend" when you don't need to be a friend anymore
Be patient with your feelings. Going through a breakup is emotionally draining.
Use healthy coping. Drinking or using substances to cope with your feelings is not a good idea.
