Unidad 1: Bienvenidos a España

Chapter 1: La vida de todos los días: Everyday life

Chapter Goals: Students will explore the country and culture of Spain. We will discuss geography, daily life, and how to express the frequency and sequence of our actions and activities. We will also learn how to ask for clarification and recognizes different methods that help in comprehension, such as gestures, body language and listening cues.

Chapter 2: De vacaciones: On vacation

Chapter Goals: Students will continue to discuss Spanish culture and life. We will focus on narrating vacations and tourist activities that we have learned about or experienced. We will express when these events have occurred. We will also learn to use the words we know to express ourselves, even it it takes more words than normal, to learn meaningful vocabulary and use of pronouns. Other cultural aspects we will cover includes Spanish personalities,artists and authors. Comprehension helps will include paying attention to context and using visual aids.

Additional unit goals:

1. To develop questions to elicit critical thinking.

2. To use contextual clues such as headings, cognates and illustrations to understand selected readings in Spanish

3. To read and discuss the Introduction of La casa en Mango Street

4. To memorize and recite Ps. 23:1
