The Agile Publishing program gives our scholars a platform for sharing and refining new contributions to growing bodies of knowledge that support the language development movement.
Participants learn how to operate the Leanpub platform so that they can use the agile process to incubate new books. Such a book might be:
an unpublished thesis or dissertation
a collection of previous papers
a textbook that is in progress
a completely new monograph
the proceedings of a workshop or symposium
The agile process follows the new trend in academic publishing toward post-publication peer review. The platform has a generous royalty formula (namely, 80% to the author) and the resulting royalty payments can deposited into the Individual Research Account of the author. When they are finished, titles that prove to have a wide appeal may be published in print with another publisher. In particular, SIL's Global Publishing Services will monitor the Agile Publishing program to identify books that look promising for formal publication by SIL. For this reason, authors are advised to follow the GPS Style Sheet (especially section 12 on formatting of bibliographic references) if they do not have a particular other publisher in mind.
