New: Call for input for a report mandated by the General Assembly resolution 74/159 entitled “Human rights and cultural diversity”. Paragraph 24 of the resolution “requests the Secretary-General to prepare a report on the implementation of the present resolution, including efforts undertaken at the national, regional and international levels regarding the recognition and importance of cultural diversity among all peoples and nations in the world and taking into account the views of Member States, relevant United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations, and to submit the report to the General Assembly at its seventy-sixth session”.
For the preparation of the report, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights would be grateful to receive any contributions on the issues covered in the resolution. Partners are encouraged to address, in their submissions, the human rights challenges experienced in protecting and promoting cultural diversity during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to highlight any good or promising practices in this area.
Submissions should be limited to four pages and be delivered in accessible format (Microsoft Word) in either English or French. Reminder: 2021 Call for submissions pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution A/HRC/46/L.26 on Cooperation with Georgia. Pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 46/L.26 entitled “Cooperation with Georgia” and adopted on 24 March 2021, OHCHR invites contributions for the forthcoming oral update and the written report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights from States, United Nations entities, specialized agencies and related organizations, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and national human rights institutions. The call for contributions, containing also the requirements for possible submissions by 14 May 2021, is available here

Reminder: Call for input: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Universal Rights Group (URG) are developing a project designed to identify good practices that aim to support environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs), their communities and their work, and encourage the replication of these practices in other contexts. You can contribute by responding to this survey currently available in English, French and Spanish or submitting good practices’ information to lac@universal-rights.org. Contributions will inform a report and an online free tool (both including examples of specific good practices) to be launched globally in October 2021. Implementing partners and contributors will be acknowledged in the resulting materials if they consent. Reminder: Virtual invitation to participate in the intersessional panel discussion on the “15th anniversary of the responsibility to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity, as enshrined in the 2005 World Summit Outcome”, pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 44/14. Reminder: Interactive E-Course on the Right to Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. Applications are now open for the interactive e-learning course: Operationalizing the Right to Development in Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. This four week interactive, instructor-led course is jointly offered by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the University for Peace and the United Nations University’s International Institute for Global Health.
The 7th and 8th Rounds will take place from 23 June to 20 July and from 20 October to 16 November 2021. To apply, please select 1 of the 2 rounds and fill the application form here. The deadline for submission of applications is 13 June 2021. Candidates will be selected on the basis of merit taking into account professional, regional, and gender diversity. Reminder: the 21st session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Right to Development, will take place from 17 to 21 May 2021, Delegations are reminded to submit copies of their statements prior to delivery to r2d@ohchr.org. NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC can participate as observers. Background The Working Group was established in 1998 with a mandate to: (a) monitor and review progress in the promotion and implementation of the right to development; (b) review reports and other information submitted by States, United Nations agencies, other relevant international and non-governmental organizations; and (c) present a sessional report to the Human Rights Council on its deliberations.
