Olivier Ribbelink is Senior Researcher at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut, where he served as Head of the Research Department from 2000 until 2010, and Associate Professor at Utrecht University, School of Law. He studied International Relations and International Law at the University of Amsterdam, where he obtained his PhD with a thesis on Succession of International Organisations. From 1987 until 1997, he was a lecturer in International Law at the University of Amsterdam. Inter alia he was co-author and project-coordinator of the 2007 Handbook International Law (in Dutch), and Head of the Research Team of the AGIS project on the European Arrest Warrant for the European Commission. He is a Board Member of the Netherlands School of Human Rights Research, and chairman of the International Justice Foundation. From 1992-2008 he served as Secretary-General of the Alumni Association of the Hague Academy of International Law. He is a member of several editorial and advisory boards of international publications, and member of the ILA Committee on Space Law, and the ILA Committee on Recognition and Non-Recognition in International Law. His areas of interest include inter alia general international law, international institutional law, state succession, and the law of outer space.
