Assessment Data Resources
Introduction
Spring Hill College collects a variety of data that can help programs and divisions in their assessment efforts. Most of these data are available by request from the IR office.
Especially relevant for program assessment: Most of the student data can be disaggregated by major division, major department, majors, and minors. Similarly, data about majors can be disaggregated by gender, race and ethnicity, and so on.
Census and PDP
The College administers a census every Fall, Spring, and Summer session, which collects extensive data about the student population, including academic (majors and minors), demographic (age, gender, race and ethnicity, religion, resident state) and others (admissions cohort, housing, first-time-or-transfer-in, veteran status). Aggregate Census data are available to all faculty and staff by request.
The College also records a census of courses and sections offered.
The College has also begun to participate in the National Student Clearinghouse Public Data Partnership ("PDP"), which allows the College to compare its student body to many other institutions'.
IPEDS
The federal government maintains extensive information about U.S. institutions of higher education. Their College Navigator allows anyone to compare Spring Hill College to other institutions.
Surveys
The College regularly administers several surveys:
The Alumni Survey is administered every two to three years and surveys alumni about their post-graduation experiences.
The Exit Survey surveys students who exit the College without graduating. It is administered on a rolling basis and results are collected every year in June.
The National Survey of Student Engagement ("NSSE") surveys first-years and seniors every year about their educational experiences.
The Senior Survey is administered every two years and surveys graduating seniors about their experiences.
