What is abstract? What is abstract art? What does it mean?
Write it down in your notebook.
Practice:
Draw an example of an abstracted face.
Draw an example of an abstracted object.
Assignment:
Choose an object! Can be something in this classroom or outside, like a leaf.
Take photos of the object, but abstracted.
You will be turning in FIVE finished photographs, but you should take more and really PLAY with this object because...
NOTE: When I look at the photos, I don't want to be able to recognize what it is or how it was made...
play with LIGHT, ANGLES, EXPOSURE!!
Turn all 5 in on one long PS doc:
30 x 10 300ppi
Turn it in as .jpg on Canvas
Create an abstract work of art in PS that incorporates various elements of art (line, shape, color, texture, space, form, value) to explore and express creativity in an abstract format. Your artwork should not represent recognizable objects or scenes but instead explore form, color, and structure in a way that emphasizes feeling, mood, or concept. Focus on visual elements, allowing viewers to interpret the meaning behind the artwork based on composition, color, and texture.
Start by sketching out ideas using basic shapes and lines.
Experiment with Photoshop tools like the Brush tool, Gradient tool, Shape tool, and Layer Styles.
Consider using blending modes, opacity adjustments, and layer effects for a more dynamic and experimental piece.
Incorporate different EoAs:
Line: Use different types of lines (straight, curved, thick, thin, etc.) to guide the viewer's eye.
Shape: Experiment with geometric or organic shapes.
Color: Choose a color palette that conveys the mood or emotion you want to express. Explore complementary, analogous, or monochromatic schemes.
Texture: Create the illusion of texture, or use actual textures like patterns or brushes.
Space: Play with positive and negative space, layering, and depth.
Form: Use light and shadow to give your shapes a three-dimensional appearance.
Value: Experiment with different shades of light and dark to create contrast or emphasis.
3. Create your masterpiece on a PS doc:
Dimensions: 10 inches x 8 inches
Resolution: 300 ppi (pixels per inch)

Please submit a screenshot of your layers as well...
When grading, I will be looking for...
Creativity and Originality: How unique is your approach to abstract art?
Incorporation of Elements of Art: Does your artwork effectively include a variety of the elements?
Composition: Is there a thoughtful use of space, balance, and harmony in your design?
Technical Execution: Are the tools and techniques applied effectively (layering, use of brushes, color harmony, etc.)?
Abstract Art is a non-representational art movement. Since the early 1900s, abstract artists portrayed a more subjective reality in their artworks, leaving interpretation and meaning up to the viewer. This moved away from how art depicted a literal portrayal of civilization and the natural world.
