Influential Photographer Project

Influential photography refers to images that have had a significant impact on culture, society, or history. These photographs often go beyond just capturing a moment—they evoke emotions, provoke thought, raise awareness, or inspire change. Here are some key aspects of influential photography: cultural impact, emotional resonance, social awareness, artistic Innovation, historical documentation, etc. In short, influential photography doesn't just document; it has the power to shape public perception, raise awareness, and even alter the course of history.

PART 1: Photographer Selection Process

We will:

a. look at different genres of photography

b. get into groups of 2-3, based on what genre you have in common

c. look into all the photographers in your favorite genre

d. select your top 3 and apply via google form

PART 2: Research Your Photographer

Use these sources for your research!
Begin researching your subject using the questions below. You MUST answer all the questions in your presentation. You can do this in paragraph form or bullet points. Make sure your answers are NEAT and LEGIBLE. Feel free to write in your own style, as long as it is appropriate for school and your subject. You must also include a "Works Cited" page to show where you got your information from.

PART 3: EMULATION

WHAT'S an EMULATION PHOTO?

An emulation is to recreate IN THE STYLE OF aka INSPIRED BY and ROOTED IN the artist's influence.

Directions: Using the information you learned about your artist, how they worked, where, what their intentions were...CHANNEL all that knowledge and create 3-4 images in their style.

For example, if your artist wanted to preserve nature...
- Think: where can you photograph that needs preservation?

FINAL PRODUCT

Why: It is important to know past influential works, when making your own pieces.

Overall: your group will choose a photographer, research them, emulate 3-4 photos of theirs, and display your work and research in a publication layout or presentation (think Google Slides or Canva).
