Week 1
Day #1
SENIOR YEAR!!!
New seating chart and attendance
Look at Schedules. Should have (1) History, (2) Math, (3) English, (4) Science, (5) AVID, (6) PE/Sport, and (7) Language/Elective/Free
Notes on making good first impressions
Class Photo
With no planners yet, designate a sheet of paper as a planner for the week, and begin writing obligations.
Day #2
Brainstorm how to enter a room, and practice. (Ridiculously easy? So do it right)
Set up Google Classroom. Students should be automatically in course. Or use Canvass to access Survey.
Begin three days of reflection and goals for the new year.
Hand back Sophomore spring final and read their own reflections (collect back)
Over the next few days, go through Starting the Year Right, which will require the use of a daily planner, and lead to passing out printed grades, Goals Sheet, and Activity Sheet along with 2016 Clubs List
When beginning to work on goals, play the beginning of Express Yourself (Whatever you do, do it good)
When looking at grades, remind how to calculate GPA (4 = A, 3 = B...), and that colleges mostly use 10-11 GPA (9-12 for scholarships)
Day #3
A passive aggressive Summer Reading Quiz (worth no points, but collect to identify students) designed to have kids assess their decision to read or not read the summer reading book Every Day.
Organize Binders. In AVID section, should have Notes, Forms, Studying and Reading, Tutorial, and SAT/ACT
Clean/set up in-class folder
There will be pop binder checks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Week 2
Day #1
Students get chromebooks delivered by the district.
Students must fill out and return waivers with checks.
Day #2
Continue with Starting the Year Right
Day #3
Recall Quotes from last year. Write meaningful quotes at top of pages in planner.
Introduce Teacher Letters.
Students finish Starting the Year Right, brainstorm Teacher Letter, and then begin writing letter.
Day #4
Write math teachers on cards for Tutorial groups
Pop Binder Check
Work on Teacher Letter
Day #5
Share letter with a classmate and use Letter Rubric
Make copies of letters and share them with teachers
If students finish, have them work on Items in My Planner
Week 3
Day #1
SAT prep with Reading Practice Example. Focus on some of the conversation pieces described at end of document.
Add the two takeaways to SAT Logs
Discuss how search through materials for point of confusion and fill out tutorial form
Day #2

Determine which textbooks are necessary for Tutorials
Make a list of upcoming performances or sporting event that the group could count as AVID activities is classmates attend.
Send Letters to Teacher if not finished earlier
Create at least 5 flashcards and one study guide for one particular class.
Write Math Tutorial question. Focus on correctly filling out the pre-work.

Review what people are bringing to the picnic (from freshman year!)
Week 4
Day #1

Day #2
Practice Cornell Notes. Take 2-3 pieces of notes and go through each of the steps one piece. Assess yourself along the way with Cornell Rubric.
Day #3
Study content material by Going Beyond with Youtube or Khan Academy.
Week 5
Day #1
SAT Studying. Continue with Grammar Skills from last year if incomplete and/or Review Grammar Skills from last year and/or do practice problems on Khan Academy SAT prep. Students turn a binder paper with the explanation of a problem and then content knowledge and/or strategy targeted by problem.
Distribute Speaker Form and have students write one question ahead of time.
Day #2
Speaker from San Francisco State.
Day #3
Debrief Speaker Form notes and discuss financial items on How Much Does College Cost?
