Kahoot!

Kahoot! and Other Assessment Apps

Quizzing has never been easier. Available for free there are may Online Apps that you can use with your students today.

The most powerful aspect of quizzing (both Online and paper) is the ability to provide instant feedback. Instant feedback intervenes in the learning process while the students are questioning. During a question a student makes a hypothesis about the right answer, and then tests his or her hypothesis by choosing an answer.

With instant feedback, results are then compared with his or her hypothesis. This is why studies on teaching strategies and effectiveness routinely show that FEEDBACK is a strong indicator for LEARNING.

Digital quizzes are nice because they will display to you, and your students, the percentages of a class for choosing choice A, B, C, or D. So not only do the students get instant feedback, you get instant feedback too!

My advice:

If you are not using any digital assessment apps in your classroom, you are missing a valuable way to interject in the learning process.

Start with one. Experiment with your students. As you learn they will learn.

Best digital formative assessment tools (in order of preference):

K-5: Kahoot is almost as easy as the elementary Smart Response clickers (once the students are Online.) The choices are shapes, and the user-interface is fantastic.

6-12: Kahoot is also my #1 recommendation, but there are several other good ones. See this Edutopia article for some summaries.
