Dear Parents/Guardians,
As our fieldtrip to Camp Chingachgook approaches, we would like to give you some information to help you to be well prepared and comfortable for our day trip. We cannot stress the importance of watching the weather to get an idea of the forecast for the day of our trip (June 9th, 2014). It is also very important to remember that the weather is typically a bit cooler in the Adirondacks than in the Capital Region.
Some of the suggestions we have when you pack for your trip:
· Bring a small day pack/book bag to pack all of your belongings.
· Remember that you will be carrying your own backpack and it needs to be light enough for you to handle.
· Bring a water bottle (plastic) so that you can stay hydrated. We can refill water bottles at the camp throughout the day, so only one water bottle will be necessary. If it is sunny, consider a visor or sunglasses. If you suffer from allergies, consider bringing a supply of tissues.
· Dress in layers so that you will be more comfortable. To reduce the risk of Lyme disease, shorts and sandals will not be permitted. In the event of mosquitoes or ticks, bring a long sleeved shirt to cover up. (Consider bug spray).
· Be sure to bring a raincoat/slicker in case of rain because we will be outside ALL day long (even if it is pouring!)
· Be sure to wear comfortable shoes such as sneakers or hiking boots. You will be on your feet and active ALL day. An extra pair of socks/shoes may be advisable. (Sandals will not be permitted.)
· If you choose to bring a camera, we suggest disposable cameras. Bring expensive cameras at your own risk.
· There is limited cell phone reception in the Adirondacks. Cell phones are unlikely to work. (Bring at your own risk.)
· Remember to pack a lunch. You may also want to bring a snack for the morning and evening bus rides. Although the camp will be providing an afternoon snack, you are responsible for bring your own lunch. Please be sure to leave any glass products home (stick to plastic/cans).
· You may want to bring a book or activity to keep you busy on the bus ride.
As a reminder, we will be leaving Camp Chingachogook on/around 5:00 pm and are hoping to arrive back to Lisha Kill between 5:45-6:00. Please be prepared to pick your child up at Lisha Kill at this time. Most likely, if the weather is good, we will pull up by the Tennis Courts and you can pick your child up from there.
Thank you for your time and support,
Sixth Grade Staff
