MOVIE TRAILER DIRECTIONS-
You and your group will film a trailer for a movie. You may use a movie plot that already exists or you can create one.
Trailer Time can be 1 to 2 minutes long.
You may film anywhere within the school and using the green screen in the printing room.

1st Assignment - Complete Storyboard and plan out exactly what your
2nd Assignment - Film the trailer
3rd Assignment - Edit in iMovie (add fonts, transitions, text, effects, etc.)
INTRODUCTION TO THE THEATRICAL TRAILER
As you sit in your seat with movie ticket stub in one hand and a bag of popcorn in the other, awaiting your feature movie to begin, you inevitably will view a barrage of commercials and movie trailers. Trailers, or previews, are film advertisements for feature films that will be exhibited in the future at a cinema, on whose screen they are shown. Trailers condense the content of a movie into a series of selected shots and dialogue set to mood-appropriate music to create excitement or interest in the viewer. Strangely enough, the term trailer would seem to suggest that the movie preview would come at the end of the feature film screening. This originally was the case until it became evident that patrons would not stick around after the film’s completion – what did stick was the term ‘trailer’. In many mainstream movie theatres, you can anticipate 10 to 15 minutes of advertising before the feature begins. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “studios are paying distributors to bulk up the pre-show program with even more trailers, sometimes packing in as many as seven before a movie. Luckily, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) sets a 2.5 minute time limit for the clips, but that still means you could get stuck with almost 18 minutes of promos before the opening credits of the movie you actually came to see begin to roll” (Adam Markovitz, Popwatch May 4th, 2010).
Movie trailers are designated green (for everyone), yellow (for only age appropriate internet users), and red (for mature audiences only... may include profanity, nudity, graphic violence). Note that special features and extended versions of film trailers are released only online and there are no time restrictions for online trailers.
THE FORMAT OF TRAILERS
Trailers tend to follow the same pattern as a film, with three "acts"... They have a beginning, or intro sequence, followed by a problem, and then a solution. This shows the audience what the film is about, however this format also reveals too much of the entire story. It is usually preferable to include scenes/clips that make the film appeal, but leave a lot to be desired.
As trailers have three "acts," they may occasionally have different songs/sounds to go with each, which are often not included in the film itself as the trailers are typically made before the post-production is finished and the soundtrack is one of the last things added. (note: This is not the case for 'ET' or films with specific, distinctive soundtracks).
Some trailers also include sequences that are not actually in the film. This is most famously seen in the six-minute trailer for Hitchcock's 'Psycho' in which the whole trailer is shot post-production and even included a different actress for the main role. However, some things are in the trailers that have been cut from the original film. An example of this is in the 'Spiderman' trailer, in which there is a scene of criminals near the World Trade Center. Since the film was released soon after the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks, the nation was still very sensitive and the scene was removed from the finished film.
