CCP PROGRAM Guidelines

Students who are in grades 9-12 at Russia High School have the option to earn college credit. These credits can be earned from taking CCP courses at Russia High School or going to a college campus such as Edison State Community College or Rhodes State College. It is the responsibility of the student to speak with the guidance counselor and begin the process necessary in order to participate. Russia High School and Russia High School students are subject to CCP rules and guidelines that are determined by the State of Ohio and participating post-secondary institutions.

High school graduation requirements will not be waived as a result of participation in College Credit Plus. You will not receive a diploma until after courses are successfully completed and the graduation requirements are met.

Once students are admitted to a college for College Credit Plus, students may initially complete “Level I” courses. The first 15 hours of college credit a student completes must be in “Level I”. A “Level I” course may include transferable courses, courses in a technical certificate, courses in a 15 or 30-credit hour pathway, and first-year experience courses. Some courses determined to be non-allowable for CCP may include: Study abroad, courses with fees that exceed $750, remedial courses, religious/sectarian courses, and others.

CCP students are responsible for knowing what is going on at Russia School (i.e. meetings, practices, rehearsals, etc). One of the best ways to get information is to read the daily announcements. Students who become ineligible to continue their post-secondary option will become full-time students at Russia Local School or the Upper Valley Career Center. When Russia School has a delay and a post-secondary student misses class due to a conflict with the post-secondary schedule, the student must follow the school protocol of Absence from School (contact from a parent/guardian is required or the student is considered unexcused).

Students are encouraged to schedule CCP orientation outside of the school day. Students that do attend orientation, take placement tests, and/or schedule classes for college during regular school hours will be considered absent and excused. Special situations might be considered if approved by the administration.

Juniors and Seniors taking college credit classes full-time off campus must be enrolled in at least 12 Semester hours. If you are not a full-time student off campus, you must attend classes here at Russia School under the Blended Learning program and fulfill the Blended Learning requirements.

In order to determine the number of College Credit Plus credit hours a student can take in a year, the secondary school must calculate the number of course credits that are for high school credit only and multiply that by 3. That number is then subtracted from the 30 hours. The result is the maximum number of credit hours a student can take in the CCP Program. *The maximum number of credits may affect the number of classes a student is required to take at Russia.*

Freshmen and sophomores taking an online college class will be given an additional study hall during the school day. Freshmen and sophomores taking a college class on campus during the school day will be accommodated to the best of the district’s ability. Freshmen and sophomores taking a class outside of the school day will be given an extra study hall and are expected to remain at school the entire day. Freshmen and sophomores may receive no more than two additional study halls per day.

Successful completion of a three or more credit-hour college course will result in a 1.0 Carnegie unit earned at the high school. A two-credit-hour college course will earn students .67 of a high school credit and a one-credit-hour college course will convert to .33 of a high school credit. This applies to all CCP classes regardless of where the class is taken. The formula used to calculate credit hours and units of credit for high schools and post-secondary institutions is 27 determined by The Ohio Department of Education and The Ohio High School Athletic Association. If there are any questions regarding this matter please see the high school counselor.

Student-athletes must remain eligible in accordance with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) bylaws. To be athletically eligible, students must be passing five, one credit courses or the equivalent per grading period with the high school and college courses combined.

A student that earns an “F” for any class or withdraws from or drops a college course subsequent to the 14th calendar day after the particular course began at the respective college, is responsible for the payment of that class, not Russia Local School District. The school district may withhold grades and credits received for high school courses taken until reimbursement has been made.

CCP grades will be on the high school and college transcripts and will be computed into the high school GPA. This includes classes withdrawn with an “F”.

Students may take summer courses provided they have met all college eligibility requirements. However, students may only earn 30 college credits in one academic year. Summer term begins a new academic year.

Any amount of credits over 30 will be paid for by the student. For example: If a three-credit hour class puts a student over 30 hours, they will pay for all three credits, books, and other associated fees.

Responsibility for transportation rests with the student.

CCP grades will be placed on the grade card and transcript with the letter grade earned in the class. No percentages will be recorded.
