Welcome! This site contains information and links that are pertinent to the courses English 9, English 11, English 12, AP Language and Composition, and IB English at Kennebunk High School. In all of these courses, we ask how the language we choose to use or to accept when others use it defines, confines or refines the way we understand each other and the world. Students ask and answer questions related to this statement again and again through their analysis of reading, in their writing, and in their discussions about the multi-media texts that saturate their lives. I firmly believe that those who engage in reading and writing change not only the way they think about themselves but also the way they think about those around them. Research bears this out; readers are more empathetic than non-readers. In addition, I believe writing is a vehicle to clearer, more precise thinking and so students write to discover and clarify their positions and beliefs on the issues and themes raised over the course of the year, hopefully developing a lifelong habit of reading and writing to learn.
