My student is in a special program (ESL/TAG/Dyslexia), will they still receive services?
Yes, the elementary school will communicate services and accommodations with us.
What is the difference between On-level Math 6 and Accelerated Math 6 ?
On-level Math 6 follows the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) required for 6th grade. The Accelerated I Math 6 course covers all of the 6th grade TEKS in addition to covering some of the 7th grade Math TEKS. Students who complete Accelerated 1 Math 6 in 6th grade are on track to take Algebra I for High School credit in the 8th grade.

Will my student’s IEP or 504 plan transfer to middle school?
Yes, the plan stays with your student in middle school and will be distributed to your student’s teachers.
Will students still be using Schoology and Chromebooks?
Yes, our students will continue with chromebooks and schoology. The Plan is for students to keep their Chromebooks and bring them to Walsh.
Will students have lockers?
Yes, all students will be assigned a lockers next year. (7th & 8th grade is request only)
When instrument selection for band and orchestra?
If students put band or orchestra on their choice sheet, they will be contacted by a director after Spring Break with more details about instrument selection which will take place in April.
Can taking Dance count as a PE and a Fine Art credit?
If students choose only Dance then it would count as PE. If students select Dance as a Fine Art then they will need to select a PE as well. Students are unable to enroll in Dance as PE and then Dance as the Fine Art simultaneously.
Is 6th grade Pre-Athletics for kids who will play football in 7th grade?
Yes, Pre-Athletics is for students who will play or are very interested in playing football in 7th grade.
Are students allowed to have cellphones?
Yes, students are allowed to carry cell-phones to school, however, students will need to power down their personal technology from 8:20 - 3:30.
Do all 7th and 8th grade boys in Athletics have to play football?
Yes, all 7th and 8th grade boys in athletics must play football.
What class should my 6th grade student sign up for if they want to play sports in middle school but not football?
Students who do not want to play football should elect Wellness Ed/PE. All students (whether they are in athletics or not) can try out for basketball, track and soccer in 7th/8th grade.
Can my student try out for sports in 7th/8th grade if they are not in Athletics?
Yes, all students can try out for basketball, track soccer and cross country if they are not in athletics.
Do we still have recess?
Students will be allowed to go outside after they finish their lunch.
LUNCH: All 6th graders have the same lunch.
My student is worried they won’t have any classes with their friends?
Middle school is a time to branch out and meet new people. Even if your child does not have classes with their friends they are guaranteed to have lunch together because we have combined lunch.
Do we have homework?
Yes, expect to have math homework every night. Our teachers do allow time to get work started and even done. Students should be reading at least 20 minutes every night.
I am a parent, I am freaking out...what do I do?
Relax, your student has this. This is a growing time for your student and you. Middle school students may be great one day and emotional the next day. Continue to keep the lines of communication open between you and your student. If you have concerns, please reach out to a teacher or one of the counselors. You know your student best and we know middle school students and we work together as a team to support your student.
