Membership

You do not need to be a member or an associate to attend meetings or participate in math events. Non members are welcome and encouraged to participate.

We will be taking applications until October 20th from Cedar Ridge students.

Print out the application or pick up a copy from your math teacher or at Room D231.

Member Status

Official members are members of the National Math Honors Society Members and are listed in the national register. Members in good standing may vote and hold office. At graduation, members in good standing are eligible for a Mu Alpha Theta cord.

Qualifications to become a Member

  • Completion of Algebra I and Geometry.

  • Enrollment in or completion of Algebra II.

  • Average of 90 or higher in mathematics courses*

National Initiation Fee: Upon notification of acceptance to Member status by the Admissions committee, the applicant will be given a deadline (typically two weeks) to submit the $10 initiation fee. No fees are required from Associates.

Members in Good Standing are current on dues and have accumulated points by attending Mu Alpha Theta meetings and a combination of competition, math event and/or service points.

Associate Status

Associates are likely candidates for membership and have one year from establishing Associate status to apply for Member status. If not eligible within one year, the student will lose Associate status but may still participate in math club activities.

Qualifications to become an Associate:

    • Completion of Algebra I.

    • Enrollment in Geometry or higher.

    • Average of 90 or higher in mathematics courses*.

Mu Alpha Theta Points system- Record these activities, except for meetings, on a points sheet and turn in at the end of every marking period.
