TSIA2 Changes
Why?
The state has adjusted how campuses receive points for CCMR. Students will need to have TSI (TSIA2, SAT, or ACT) plus one other qualification. The majority of 10th graders will not have taken the SAT/ACT yet.
Many 10th graders will also need the ELAR TSIA2 to take Dual Credit courses. Previously, they were able to use PSAT scores, but that changed in Spring 2025.
For those that do not pass, TSIA2 gives a starting point for possible intervention.
Who will test
Freshman Year - Students in Geometry or Above
Sophomore - All English II students and Students in Geometry
When
End of Freshman year during EOC - Math for those in Geometry or above
December of Sophomore year - RLA/Essay for all sophomores
End of Sophomore year during EOC - Math for those in Geometry
End of Junior year - all juniors not CCMR based on PSAT or SAT

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state-required assessment test to determine college-readiness in reading, writing, and math. All entering students must take the TSI test before enrolling in classes unless you are exempt or complete.
IMPORTANT: Beginning January 11, 2021, the TEXAS Higher Education Coordinating Board revised the standards for all TSI testing in the state of Texas. There will be an updated TSIA2 exam which will take the place of the current TSIA exam.
The TSIA2 will have the Reading and Writing combined into one section which will be called the English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR)section. Reading and Writing will no longer be offered as separate tests.
The Mathematics section will remain the same.
All TSIA scores are valid for 5 years from the date that you took the exam.

If you meet any of these criteria you may be exempt from needing to take TSI:
ACT: Composite score of 23 with a 19 in English, 19 in Math
SAT: New scale score (after March 5, 2016) 480 on Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) exempts you from both reading and writing sections of TSI; a minimum score of 530 exempts you from math. There is no combined score.
SAT: Prior to March 5, 2016 -- Combined score of 1070 with a minimum of 500 in critical reading & a 500 on the math. You can not mix or combine scores from the old and the new.
