Characteristics of Gifted Students

All children have individual gifts that are amazing to watch develop in the early years of life. When looking at common characteristics of gifted students at the elementary level we see varying abilities across the curriculum. At Williamsburg Elementary we work hard to communicate with parents/guardians to identify students who are demonstrating high performance capability in areas such as intellectual, creative, leadership, or in any specific academic area. Working together we can provide these students with special services and activities that will help foster and grow their gifts.

Listed below you will find charts, articles, and list that will help identify various characteristics of gifted students in multiple areas. While these charts, articles, and list can be used as a guide to help us identify gifted students, it is very important to remember that many students do not show all of the characteristics listed at one moment in time. Giftedness characteristics vary among individuals, across genders, cultures, and socioeconomic status, and time. Working together we can continuously look for signs of giftedness within our diverse population of students at Williamsburg Elementary.
