Elementary Battle of the Books is an annual competition among teams consisting of 4th and 5th graders. Students read 15 books and then compete against one another in a 'quiz bowl' type competition. Elementary teams compete at local and regional levels.

We really hope you will think about joining our team this year!! We will be talking more about the team in the upcoming months. I just wanted to provide you with the 2024-25 list in case you were looking for some good books to read!! Please do not feel like you have to go and buy these books!! We have most of them at school for checkout and some are available at our local libraries for you to check out!! There is also an app for digital copies of books and even some audio books. check out Sora!

Battle of the Books Club for 4th and 5th Grade
Battle of the Books is an optional reading program for students sponsored by the NC School Library Media Association. The program encourages students to read and discuss quality books and have fun while competing with peers. Students who join the club will read the books from the book list at home and take quizzes during club meetings to earn a spot on our final competition team.
Book List
For Battle of the Books, students will read books from a statewide list chosen by the NC School Library Media Association to prepare for a competition against other elementary schools. Students are expected to read these books at home. A list of the books is included on the back of this letter. You may read a summary and watch a preview video of the books at the following website: https://sites.google.com/rock.k12.nc.us/williamsburg-bob-2425?usp=sharing. Books are available for checkout from the school library, public library, or on Sora.
** Parents & guardians are highly encouraged to review each of the books on the list using the website above or at https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews. Some of the books on the list may contain advanced themes or language. If you find a book on the official list that you are concerned about or would like to discuss further, please contact Mrs. Hopkins or Mrs. Nelson.
