Watch Episode 1 and episode 5 of the HBO show Chernobyl
Week 2 - December 2nd-6th
Monday - Demonstration Day - Introduction to Electric fields, Electrical circuits, and what causes electricity
Tuesday- Discuss different types of energy, and different ways to harness electricity
Introduce the idea of conductors and insulators
Introduce the major components of electricity
Voltage - similar to the amount of water in a barrel - it is the driving force pushing electrons through a wire
Current - Similar to a stream of water - it is a measure of the number of electrons flowing through a wire
Resistance - similar to a hole in the side of a canister- how much push back on the flow of electrons
Wednesday - U.S. Navy Presentation
Homework -
reading on color codes
Thursday - Introduce Resistor color codes
Friday- Practice using resistor color codes
Week 3 - December 9th- 13th
Monday -
Begin electrical resistance lab - You will have four resistors and you need to see what happens to resistors in parallel and series
Tuesday - Continue to work on the electrical resistance lab
READING HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Wednesday-
Measure voltage in a parallel and series circuit.
Small quiz on reading resistor color codes and calculating resistors in series.
Thursday- Lab - Part 3- Phet simulation for electrical circuits
Focus in on the current- What happens to the electrons as they move through the circuit
Link to the simulation
Friday-Finish Simulation
