The South Ridge Language & Literacy Lab is where students who are developing their literacy skills and English language skills can get extra support in the following areas of language and literacy:

• English language development for speakers of another language

• Phonemic awareness (the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate the sounds of English)

• Phonics (matching sounds of spoken English with individual letters or groups of letters)

• Vocabulary

• Reading fluency (reading at an appropriate rate and with expression appropriate to text)

• Reading comprehension
