RCDRC is pleased to announce that effective Friday April 13, 2018 Church World Service, Inc. (CWS) is the official fiscal agent of the Robeson County Disaster Recovery Committee. (RCDRC) We are especially thankful to CWS for their patience and unwavering commitment to provide Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely solutions that will dramatically increase our capacity to deliver an unprecedented caliber of transparency and accountability to our donors, members, strategic partners, and the community.
"Church World Service [ a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, and publicly disclosed revenues of over $96 million ] is a faith-based organization transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster." "CWS was formed in response to an emergency – the aftermath of World War II, [they] provided more than 11 million pounds of food, clothing and medical supplies to war-torn Europe and Asia." "After more than 71 years, responding to emergencies remains a cornerstone of what [they] do.”
For example, Church World Service offers a broad range of relevant and comprehensive opportunities that include: Disaster Preparedness training that helps "individuals, congregations,community leaders, clergy, first responders and others better equip a community to deal with a disaster"; Immediate Response capabilities that "focuses particular attention on reaching the most vulnerable disaster survivors, including those with the fewest means and those with language, age, disability and other access issues"; and Long-Term Recovery tools and resources because a "disaster does not go away once attention turns elsewhere"...."whether [it occurs] along the shores of New Jersey or in the capital of Haiti." And while the incredible work that CWS is engaged in both around the world and throughout the nation may be unknown to some in our local community – they were right here with us during the very early developmental stages of this organization by providing a $5,000 grant and by offering to serve as our fiscal agent in an effort to nurture Robeson County's ongoing and emerging community resilience and sustainability needs in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.
After being named as the Executive Director of RCDRC in June 2017, Ms. Cassandra Campbell immediately recognized the enormous growth opportunities that CWS provides organizations through their diverse platform of services, and frequently highlighted the benefits associated with simultaneously strengthening our relationships with global leaders in disaster recovery while working collaboratively with our local, state and federal stakeholders. During last month's Long-Term Recovery Group meeting RCDRC's membership voted to move forward with CWS as our new fiscal agent so we are excited that this very important benchmark was achieved last week.
