AP courses are not connected with any particular college. AP exams occur in May, and students’ AP exam scores determine whether they earn college credit for the corresponding course.
Each student must have/create a College Board account and “join” their AP course(s) in their College Board account (at myap.collegeboard.org) in order to take an AP exam(s): Joining Your AP Class Section It is important that students do not create multiple College Board accounts. If students are not able to access their College Board account, they must call the College Board at 1-888-225-5427.
Students who are enrolled in an AP course are expected to take the corresponding AP exam. The only exception is Calculus. Students who enroll for IU ACP credits for Calculus are not required to also take the AP exam, but students are permitted to do both. The College Board AP exam ordering deadline is in November for fall and yearlong courses. In late October or early November, students will be asked to sign a form indicating that they either commit to staying in the AP course 2nd semester and taking the AP exam or that they will drop the course 2nd semester and not take the AP exam. The College Board charges a $40 unused exam fee, so if an AP exam is ordered based on a student’s form but the student later chooses not to take the AP exam, the student will incur the $40 unused exam fee.
The Core Transfer Library provides information regarding which college credits Indiana colleges will grant based on specific AP exam scores.
