Today's Goal: Today students will be able to write percents as fractions and fractions as percents.
Percents to Fractions
Remember, a percent is a ratio that compares a number to 100. The ratio has a denominator of 100. Then reduce it to simplest form.
So, just write the percent as a numerator and the denominator is 100. Now reduce the fraction to lowest terms using any method you choose. This includes Lola May.
Percents to Fractions
This even works for percents over 100. Write the percent as the numerator and write the denominator as 100. This creates an improper fraction. Change it to a mixed number and then reduce the fraction to simplest form.
Fractions to Percents
Changing a fraction to a percent requires a proportion. A percent is ratio that compares a number to 100. Write down the fraction, then set it equal to a fraction with 100 as the denominator and n as the numerator. Now use cross products (multiply the opposite numerator s and denominators). Get n to be alone by dividing by the number it is being multiplied (in the example below the number is 5) by and you will have the percent.
