Today's Goal: Students will be able to put a mixture of fractions, decimals and percents in order from least to greatest and greatest to least.
When comparing & ordering numbers in different forms, it is best to get them all in the same form and then compare or order them.
The easiest method to use is decimals.
- Turn all fractions into decimals by dividing the numerator by the denominator.
- Turn all percents into decimals by dividing by 100 (moving the decimal two place to the left).
- Now line all the decimals up by their decimals and begin comparing from left to right. Directions on doing this are found next.
Ordering Decimals
- When Ordering decimals the first and most important thing to do is line the numbers up by their decimals. If there is not a decimal remember, the decimal is always to the right of the ones pace even if we do not write it.
- Be sure to pay attention to the directions to know if you are going from least to greatest or greatest to least.
- Start comparing the numbers from left to right, just like you do when putting words in alphabetical order.
