In 2015, Arizona passed the “American Civics Act”, which requires students to pass a 100-question civics test to graduate from high school. This test includes history, geography, and civics questions that address K-12 social studies standards.
The civics test is a graduation requirement beginning with the Class of 2017. Juniors and
Seniors who have not passed the civics test or have not taken the civics test, will have multiple opportunities to take the test this year. Students will be notified via email of the upcoming dates.
Juniors: If you did not take or pass the exam in your Sophomore Social Studies class, you will have 8 more opportunities prior to graduation to pass.
Based on a new law passed in AZ in 2021, the minimum required score on the Civics Exam is 70 out of 100 to pass.
