Skills Needed For First Grade

Dear Upcoming First Grade Parents,

We are looking forward to starting a new year with your students. In order to be successful in first grade, you should continue working with your child over summer vacation. Some skills that you can practice for first grade include:

• Identifying numbers 1-25
• Values of numbers through 25
• Identifying letters of the alphabet in and out of order
• Identifying the sounds of the letters
• Identifying coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter)
• Continue to develop an interest in literature (Read together often.)
• Recognize color words
• Write first and last name
• Ability to tie their own shoes

Our partnership throughout the year will be an essential piece of our interactions with students. We are eager to begin a new year with you and your children.
