2019-20 Archives
April 27, 2020
We have all been adjusting to this "new normal" of online school for the past few weeks, and as usual, WWA students have been rising to the challenge and creating some wonderful artwork! Thanks for turning in your work and sharing it with your classes.
Normally, this time of year is exciting as we approach summer break, and end the year with celebrations and fun projects. I am definitely missing my students' energy and excitement!
I did get a chance to get in the Art Room and separate the artwork and awards of each class. All completed work that was labeled with your name will be returned, including sculpture from 5th and 6th grade. You will be receiving information from your classroom teacher or Mr. Brownlie about when you can pick up any schoolwork. Details have not yet been set, so we appreciate your patience. As always, you can email myself, our Special Area teachers, or your classroom teacher with questions.
As we come into the month of May, I hope you continue to strive for excellence. No matter what occurs, WWA students always rise up and do their best. I miss you and am so proud of you!
April 2020- Covid-19
I am sure you are all receiving a lot of information regarding the status of our school, district, and state. I am extremely sad that I will not get to end the year with my wonderful WWA students, I miss you! There is nothing that compares to witnessing the creativity of the children in the classroom, but we shall all get through this together.
I wanted to clarify the instructions for WWA Special Areas. We will be using Google Classroom.
You will receive a lesson for your grade level each week on the following days:
Monday: PE
Tuesday: Music
Wednesday: STEM
Thursday: Art
Friday: World Language
There are no due dates for art lessons. My goal is to provide my students with Art Appreciation, Art History, Art Practice, and some enjoyable activities related to the arts. So please have fun with it!
If you do not have supplies at home, I have included links for "How to Make...".
Lessons can be adapted to drawing with crayons or pencil as well.
For my students who require adult assistance, there are adapted lessons for you in the Google Slides Presentations.
For students who want to go a bit further, some lessons will have extensions, so you can extend your learning.
You do not have to do all the variations of the lessons in each Presentation.
If you want to share your creations, take a photo and upload it to the Google Classroom. Click on "Turn in" and upload it from there.
Parents/Guardians: Please check the "Settings" and turn off notifications as you prefer. We are trying to limit the number of email notifications for each class, and I'm sure you are receiving a number of them.
Click on the hamburger (3 lines up in the left hand space when in Google Classroom)
Scroll down on the left hand side and select settings
Artwork in the Classroom
I have all current or completed art projects in the Art Room (and in the lobby, if you are a 5th grader)
PVUSD Arts Festival Artwork and Awards
I have all WWA participant awards and original art in the Art Room as well as artworks that my students are working on.
Due to our closure, I am unable to distribute these artworks and awards back to my students at this time. As I get more information, I will update you on this site.
I am sending hugs to all my kiddos, and my sincerest hope is that we are all together again, creating and having fun in the Art Room. Stay safe!!
February 2020
We will be representing our school at the PV Arts Festival The Sights and Sounds of Paradise Valley, showcasing the wonderful work of our students. Come out and enjoy a FREE weekend event that celebrates Visual Art, Chorus, Band, Orchestra, Strings, Dance, & Theater from all of our schools in the district on Saturday, March 7 & Sunday, March 8.
WWA will be displaying both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional (sculpture) works. If your student's work is selected, he/she should have received a letter from Mr. Joel Taylor, Director of Fine Arts.
There are 3 levels of awards:
Purchase Award (monetary award): Blue Ribbon
PVUSD will purchase your artwork, professionally mount and frame it, and display it in our Governing Board meeting room. (The student transfers all rights to PVUSD). If you do not want to participate in the Purchase Award adjudication, please let me know.
Director's Award: Red Ribbon
This represents the best of that grade level in all of PVUSD schools. The artwork is returned to the student.
Honorable Mention: Green Ribbons
This represents the best of Whispering Wind Academy. The artwork is returned to the student.
Bring the whole family and enjoy all the arts in PVUSD schools. And please congratulate all of our fantastic students who work so hard.
