Design is all around us and we are all constantly designing. When we think of design we usually think one of two things: form or function.
How does it look and how well does it work?
Truly well designed things not only appeal to our sense of aesthetics, but are also highly functional.
Can you think of well designed things?
4 Stages of Design Thinking
Investigate: Where do I begin? What am I starting with? What is happening?
Interpret: What needs to happen? What needs to be solved? What do my observations mean? What are the limitations? What are requirements? What are the properties of the raw materials? What do I want to be the end result?
Imagine: Mental prototyping. What are all the possibilities? Think inter-disciplinary! Ideas, ideas, ideas. Then narrow your idea.
Invent: Create it. Build it. Write it. Sing it. Draw it. Paint it. Act it. Code it. Dance it.
People have always loved mazes. Mazes can be found in ancient art, myths, architecture and games. Designing mazes naturally leads the designer through the creative stages of design, and is a fun way to build problem solving skills. Designing physical marble mazes requires the use STEM skills in real and authentic ways. Example STEM skills: spacial skills, geometry, shape, measurement, time, weight, gravity, simple machines, energy, velocity, viscosity, structures, creative use of materials, prototypes, binary code, Mazes can be built in a maker space or designed digitally.
EMIS
Maze Generator and Remixes
When making your maze remix, try to:
1) Change STAGE block color
and make sure to change the code
2) Change ending goal color and make sure to change the code
3) Change the sprite to something small so it can fit through the maze, then copy the code here on the left
4) Most errors can be erased with a COMMAND Z
