Over the course of history there have been many people that have used standing desks:
Leonardo Da Vinci
Thomas Jefferson
Ernest Hemingway
Benjamin Franklin
Sir Winston Churchill
Last year, parents, teachers, and other donors helped me bring standing desks into the classroom (featured on the right). Over the course of my teaching I have found that students sit for about an hour each class, and only move really when passing time happens. Because of this I wanted to give students a chance to increase their movement within the classroom. Studies are showing that sitting for extended periods of time isn't as healthy. But neither is standing, which is why I also have a stool for each student to sit on as well. This gives the student a chance to really keep their blood flowing which will increase their oxygen in their system which will make it to where they are more awake and alert in the classroom.Â
