Scheduling/Course Requests

2022-23 COURSE REQUESTS Information

The High School Counseling Department has set tentative schedules for next year's course requests. Schedule is as follows:

Current Juniors - TBD with Mrs. Schaefer

Current Sophomores - TBD with Mrs. Schaefer

Current Freshmen - TBD with Mr. Lucas

Current 8th graders - January with Mr. Lucas (at PPMS)

During the appointment, a course request list for the upcoming school year and future academic plans will be discussed. Parents are not required to attend, but are welcome to participate in these appointments. Students, please use the following guidelines when scheduling an appointment:

1. Discuss with your parent your future academic plans and career goals.

2. Have a written list of your course requests ready when you come to your appointment.

3. If you choose not to schedule an appointment, return your course request list to a Counselor by the deadline.

4. If your parent would like to schedule an appointment or conference call, choose a time that will work for both of you.

*High School appointments can be made by calling PPHS (626-1044) or signing up in the Counselors' Office.

*Eighth Grade appointments can be made by calling PPMS (626-1061).

COURSE CHANGES: If 8 of the 10 requests are scheduled, no changes will be made to a schedule unless one of the following occur:

  • A failing grade in a required course the previous semester which requires a repeat of that course.

  • A documented suggestion by the previous year's teacher that the student not continue in this course path.

  • A change in career goals which requires a move to a more difficult class.

  • A move from a class a determined necessary by an administrator.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS: 28 total credits required to graduate, including:

  • 4 credits English: comprised of 131/132, 231/232, 331/332, and one elective (will fulfill 2 credit writing requirement)

  • 3.5 credits Physical Education: policy is modified for students excused by a physician, approved PE waiver, or legal reasons

  • 3 credits Math: students who successfully complete 141 will still need a second and third year-long math course

  • 2 credits Science: one in life science and one in physical science

  • 2 credits Social Sciences (American History & Civics): students required to pass both the US & Illinois State Constitution exams

  • 1 credit: from among the following: Art, Foreign Language, Music, or Vocational Education

  • .5 credit Health

  • .5 credit Driver Ed

  • .5 credit Consumer Ed

  • Rite of Passage: project must be successfully completed by all seniors

* No more than four credits may be accepted for work done by correspondence, night, summer, and/or in college-level courses.

* Students who have spent less than two years at PPHS may have up to two units of credits exempted by the administration.
