Scraggy's Window to the World

Elementary students can view live scenes of Yellowstone National Park, the San Diego Zoo, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and other sites, through Scraggy’s Window to the World.

The initiative, organized by Librarian Selinda Stout and funded by a Royal Education Foundation grant, aims to bring lessons to life by enabling students to observe the places they are studying. For example, second-graders studying American symbols can watch live video of the Washington, DC bald eagle nest.

The live video feed is featured on a large screen television outside the school’s library and can be viewed by students throughout the day.

“Whether the live video is from another country, a distant city, sporting event or national park, these cyber field trips will enhance our students’ educational experience,” said Stout. “Students will gain a broader perspective of the world that they might not otherwise have.” Syntax, 2016
